Pascal Rophè

Maestro Rophé has worked with all the major French orchestras. Elsewhere in Europe he has appeared with many of the leading orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Gulbenkian Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestras, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre National de Belgique, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, the orchestras of La Fenice, Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. In the Far East he has worked with the Seoul Philharmonic and appears regularly with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.

Since his early collaboration at Ensemble Intercontemporain with both Pierre Boulez and David Robertson, Pascal Rophé has become renowned as an authority on contemporary music. His extensive and award-winning discography includes works by Eric Tanguy, Thierry Escaich, Pascal Dusapin, Ivan Fedele, Michael Jarrell, Luigi Dallapiccola, Joseph Jongen, Camille Saint-Saëns and Henri Dutilleux.

His operatic interpretations include Pélléas et Mélisande with Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Thaïs for Opera di Roma, and both Der fliegende Holländer and Dialogue des Carmélites at the Budapest Spring Festival. Among the contemporary operas he has championed are Michael Jarrell’s Galilée for Geneva’s Grand Théâtre, Ahmed Essyad’s Héloïse et Abélard for the Châtelet, Michèle Reverdy’s Medée for Opéra de Lyon, and most recently, Mantovani’s L'Autre Côté for Cité de la Musique.

Pascal Rophé studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and was a prize winner at the Besançon International Competition for young conductors in 1988. For many years, in parallel with his career as conductor, Pascal Rophé has given masterclasses in conducting at the Paris Conservatoire
